I am a solo attorney in Portland, Oregon with a small, nationwide practice directed principally to complex commercial and appellate litigation.
Experience: My strength is legal writing and analysis—including teaming with trial counsel on major motions and appeals. I aim to organize and simplify complex issues for busy generalist judges, to show them the way to decisions in my clients’ favor. Over the years, and to that end, I have briefed and argued a wide range of procedural and substantive issues in courts across the country—from motions to dismiss in trial courts, to merits briefs in the Supreme Court, and most points between. I have also presented oral argument in five federal appellate courts, including before the Seventh Circuit sitting en banc.
Background: I grew up in metro Detroit, went to college in New York City, moved to Portland, and then spent 15 years in Chicago—as law student, clerk, and appellate litigator—before returning to the Pacific Northwest. See www.linkedin.com/in/billferranti.
