ABOUT ME

I assist with a small set of matters that typically, but not exclusively, involve federal litigation of complex commercial disputes.

Experience: My practice now extends a successful career of legal writing and analysis—including working with co-counsel on major motions and appeals. For busy generalist judges to reach the right result, complex issues must be organized and simplified. Over the years, and to that end, I have briefed and argued a wide range of procedural and substantive issues in courts across the country—from motions to dismiss in trial courts, to merits briefs in the Supreme Court, and most points between. I have also presented oral argument in five federal appellate courts, including one sitting en banc.

Background: I grew up in metro Detroit, went to college in New York City, enjoyed 2 years in Portland, and spent 15 years in Chicago—as law student, clerk, and appellate litigator—before returning to the Pacific Northwest. See www.linkedin.com/in/billferranti.

Admissions: Oregon, Illinois (inactive), SCOTUS, CA2, CA4, CA5, CA7, CA8, CA9, CA10, CADC, CAFC, C.D. Ill., N.D. Ill., D. Or.
